10 am- 11 am | Magno Project: New Strategies & Digital Solutions to Tackle Food Packaging Pollution

Jessica Genovese

Jessica Genovese is a Senior Food Production and Technology Researcher at DNV, working with the Sustainable Food Systems Team and leading the dissemination activities for the MAGNO Project.

 



Previously, she was a Scientific Researcher at the University of Milano, focusing on reducing food waste and developing sustainable packaging solutions. She holds a PhD in Food Science and Technology from the University of Bologna.

Luigi Operato

Luigi Operato is a researcher within the Sustainable Food Systems Team at DNV, where he serves as the project manager for the company in the MAGNO project.

 

With expertise in materials engineering and Life Cycle Assessment, Luigi has worked on analysing the environmental profiles and performance of bio-based materials, with the goal of scaling up their use in industrially relevant solutions.

Wael Hamd

Wael Hamd is an Associate Professor in Chemical Engineering at the University of Balamand, Lebanon. He holds a PhD in Chemical Processes from ENSCI and the University of Limoges, France, and serves as the national coordinator of the MAGNO project.

 

His research focuses on nanostructured catalysts for the treatment of organic pollutants and microplastics, as well as applications in energy and petrochemical processes, with an emphasis on environmental sustainability.

Phil Rosenow

Phil Rosenow is a research assistant in the Materials Development department at the Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging IVV and serves as the technical coordinator in the MAGNO project. He holds a PhD in Chemistry from the Philipps-Universität Marburg.

 

His work at Fraunhofer IVV focuses on shelf-life modelling and data-based approaches to optimize the functionality and sustainability of packaging.

Ignacio Fernández-Pacheco Ruiz

Ignacio Fernández-Pacheco Ruiz is a project coordinator within the Thermodynamics Division at IDENER and the project coordinator of the MAGNO project.

 





He holds a master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the Autonomous University of Madrid and the Rey Juan Carlos University. His work at IDENER focuses on process design, modelling and optimisation in the chemical, manufacturing, and energy industries.

Giuseppe De Filippi

Born in 1964 in Rome, has worked at L'Opinione and then at Tg5 since 1992. Since 1996 he has collaborated with Il Foglio, for which he also edits the daily newsletter “Di cosa parlare stasera a cena”. He founded and directs the current Class Cnbc. He has collaborated with Avvenire, Il Giornale, Milano Finanza.

 



He wrote with Stefano da Empoli the essay La banca dell'Euro. He participates in public meetings on economic and financial issues, including the latest editions of the Trento Festival of Economics organised by Sole 24 Ore. He hosted Tg5 in the 8 p.m. edition from 2007 to 1017, he is currently deputy director of Tg5.

Michele Cantisani

Michele Cantisani is a food technologist with a degree from the University of Milan. He spent his first years in the flexible packaging industry working at the GOGLIO group and then developed his professionalism in the food world with his employment at HEINZ (now KRAFTHEINZ). Since 2017 he has been working at the BOLTON GROUP within the BU Home & Personal care.

 



Michele Cantisani has over twenty years of experience in packaging innovation, gained throughout the supply chain and in different FMCG sectors. He has developed solid technical expertise combined with strong business acumen, integrating the vision of the manufacturer and the user in sectors such as Food, Home & Personal Care and Beauty. This dual perspective has enabled him to tackle common packaging challenges in different markets. Today, it promotes complex, cross-disciplinary collaborations to meet the challenges of innovation, sustainability and regulation, fostering dialogue between all players in the packaging industry.

Rosi Barrale

Regulatory Affairs Manager at Goglio Group, a leading multinational company in the flexible packaging sector. She coordinates the Technical Committee of Giflex and actively collaborates with the SARA COM Technical Committee of FPE, with a focus on legislation and regulations related to food contact and sustainability. Founding member of AIBO FCE.

 



With over 30 years of experience in the flexible packaging sector, she has developed cross-functional expertise in both technical and managerial areas. She specializes in national, European, and non-European legislation on food contact materials and environmental issues related to packaging. She also oversees system and product certifications, supporting innovation and regulatory compliance.

Andrea Cassinari

Experienced chemist in flexible packaging, with a strong focus on Food Safety and Sustainability. He holds the position of Group Quality Director and Global Regulatory Affairs Director at Gerosa Group, a leading European flexible packaging manufacturer. He has built solid expertise in planning and implementing the most advanced corporate certification schemes, ensuring full regulatory compliance at both European and international levels.

An expert in Food Safety and Sustainability, he contributes to the development and consolidation of industry reference standards throughout the supply chain and to the advancement of regulatory frameworks through internationally recognized approaches such as Risk Assessment and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).

Paola Riccardi

Dr. Paola Riccardi, Chemist, is registered in Section A of the Interprovincial Order of Chemists and Physicists of Parma and Piacenza. Since 2019, she has been working as a freelancer and Packaging Consultant. She is a partner at SRCingegneria Srl and heads the company’s Chemistry Department, which operates in the field of renewable energy and sustainability.

 



She is a member of AIBO (Italian Association of Business Operators–Food Contact Experts of the Italian Packaging Institute). She has over 20 years of experience in the flexible packaging sector, starting in 1995, with roles in Research and Development, Quality Control Management, and Regulatory Affairs.

Nadia Rossi

Born in Castel San Giovanni (PC) on June 21, 1991, she earned a Master’s Degree in Supramolecular Chemistry with top honors (110/110) from the University of Pavia. Since 2016, right after completing her studies, she has been working in quality control at the Univel Group, which includes three companies: Castagna, Tecnopack, and Filca. She began her career in quality control at the Group’s headquarters, Castagna Univel, and was later appointed to lead the quality control laboratory at Tecnopack Univel.

 



Currently, in addition to her responsibilities at Tecnopack, she supports the Quality activities at Filca and the Quality Assurance processes across all three companies of the Group. In October 2019, she obtained the qualification of Business Operator and subsequently joined AIBO. Since 2023, she has been an active member of both the Technical Committee and the Sustainability Committee of Giflex.

Italo Vailati

Italo Vailati holds a degree in chemical engineering with a macromolecular focus from the Politecnico di Milano. After an experience in a Montedison research centre, he started working in a flexible packaging company as research and development manager and was later appointed production manager.

 

After an experience in a paper converting company, he joined Assografici in 2006 as secretary general of Giflex (flexible packaging manufacturer group) and later took charge of Gipea (self-adhesive labels) and GITAC (cardboard tubes and cores). Since 2017, he has been Deputy Director of Assografici in charge of the activities of the specialisation groups and in charge of the technology, environment and regulatory affairs areas.
