We spoke with Paolo Micheletta, Area Sales Manager Italy, to discuss business strategies in more detail.

What are the prospects leading up to IPACK-IMA 2025 and what does this participation represent for you?

IPACK-IMA is and has always been a key appointment for all the food, beverage, pharma processing, technology and packaging industry players, suppliers and users. 

The response Fristam got in the past editions from its existing Customers, as well as very interesting new prospects, has led to confirming its participation also in the 2025 edition. 

Nowadays the web has opened up worlds that few years ago we could only imagine. However, it does not allow us to do one fundamental thing: physically meet potential customers.

What technological solutions and innovations are you currently working on?

Fristam has recently introduced the new patented Twin Speed Gearbox (TSG) drive system, which greatly expands the range of operation of its FDS double screw hygienic pumps. In applications where big ranges of flow are necessary, the new Fristam system offers a very innovative, efficient, simple and robust drive solution with several advantages over standard three-phase motors or servomotors.

The TSG system combined with a common frequency converter, allows to reach up to 1:50 ratio between production and CIP phase. This ensures flow rates above 2.5 m/s during the cleaning process, even in pipelines with large cross sections.

More than 400 successful installations in the food and pharmaceutical sectors have shown that the use of FDS TSG allows you to manage severe production conditions (for example fruit concentrates, syrups, filling creams or candies) and extremely different CIP needs, fully exploiting the high flexibility of FDS double screw pumps.

Sustainability and digitalization: what contribution can your technologies make?

Fristam has always been very conscious on the topic of sustainability, especially for what concerns the energy efficiency of its products. This practically translates in a continuous effort of Fristam’s R&D department to design and engineer high efficiency machines which allow a great reduction of the installed power. Also, all Fristam’s machines come with IE3, IE4 or even higher electrical motors efficiency.

Speaking of the TSG technology mentioned above and its commitment with sustainability, this system reduces the installed power from 30% to 50%, reducing investment costs, improving energy efficiency and decreasing the pump operating costs.

Which direction is the market moving in? 

The market, and consequently OEMs, are more and more moving towards very flexible productions and smaller batches, especially in the pharma but also in food and beverage processing. This means that all equipment and components have to operate with products with very different features in terms of density, viscosity and overall physical properties. 

The era of large series productions is coming to an end, and Fristam’s products have anticipated this trend: all the pumps and mixing solutions are very adaptable to varying product conditions, allowing a reliable and stable production in multiple different setups.
